        <p>A review of experimental data and theoretical models of fracture processes in homogeneous and nonhomogeneous nanocrystalline ceramics is presented. The key experimentally detected facts in this area are discussed. Special attention is paid to the theoretical models describing toughness enhancement in nanocrystalline ceramics.</p>
