The present study is focused on the protection of alloys against hot corrosion by burnishing the thermal spray coatings. The research study aims to appraise the hot corrosion behavior of WC-Co coatings deposited on boiler steel SA213-T11 using a High-Velocity Oxy-Fuel process (HVOF) followed by a burnishing process. This study also aims to develop a suitable protective burnished-coated material system to enhance the life of metals and alloys operating under a hot corrosion environment. Therefore, the performance of the thermal spray coating followed by the burnishing process is required to be studied for the primary modes of degradation against oxidation and hot corrosion modes of material failure. Various microstructural and mechanical characterizations techniques such as X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Optical Microscopy, and Microhardness tester were employed to evaluate coating properties. The performance of the thermal spray coating followed by the burnishing process is studied for the primary modes of degradation against oxidation and hot corrosion modes of material failure.
